The access to the fountain path is hidden at the far end of this square. If you follow the narrow path to the left, the fountain path leads close to the narrow buildings along the Zuckerberg area. The origin of the name "Brunnenpfad" is unknown. Presumably it was a path the residents used to reach wells outside the fortified defensive walls.

The so-called health fountain is also located at this circular route station. A staircase leads to the spring water, which gushes 4 meters below the surface, which used to be routed through a brick canal to Saalmühle on the north side of the Kaiserpfalz. Today the spring feeds the water playground "On the ditch". The fountain is a testament to the abundance of water in the Ingelheim Imperial Palatinate region.

It is fed by spring and strata water, that flows down from the slope of the Rhenish Hessian plateau to the Rheingraben. Contrary to what the name "health fountain" suggests, it has Average quality water only and shouldn't be drunk.
