The Jacob's or Heaven's Ladder stands on the way to the Peace Cross. The ladder, rising towards the sky, is equipped with colored glass plates on its rungs. Depending on the time of day or the incidence of light, its colors appear differently. The motif of the heavenly ladder is based on Jacob's dream in the Old Testament. In his dream, he sees a ladder leading from the earth to heaven, used by angels as a connection between the two spheres. At the top of the ladder, God looks down upon the world and communicates with the world through His heavenly messengers.
