“Quo vadis?” – Roman rural life in Ingelheim
Guided tour and workshop
This year's Senior Citizens' Days at the Museum at the Imperial Palace are dedicated to the Roman Year 2026 in Rheinhessen. Numerous archaeological finds, including three magnificent grave figures, tell of everyday Roman life in the Ingelheim area: How did people live on a farm, a so-called “villa rustica,” what was on the Romans' menu, where did the merchants and craftsmen live, and how did they commemorate the dead? Museum employee Miriam Maslowski provides insights into Roman rural life. After refreshments of coffee and cake and a tasting of a spicy Roman cream cheese spread called “moretum,” participants will make a clay figure based on a Roman model.
