We present a special photo exhibition by the artist Wolfhard Tannhäuser as part of a new summer special. Under the title “faces from the holy land,” the photographer shows an impressive series of black-and-white portraits and street scenes from Jerusalem and Bethlehem.
In his work, Wolfhard Tannhäuser focuses on the people in the “Holy Land.” Far from tourist clichés, he captures the spiritual density and the multifaceted everyday life of Jerusalem in contrasting black-and-white images. The reduction to grayscale emphasizes the distinctive facial features and the intense gazes of the residents of this historically rich region. His photographs are characterized by a respectful closeness to the portrayed. “faces from the holy land” is the result of multiple visits to Israel in the years 2009, 2012, and 2013.
Wolfhard Tannhäuser studied art education and art history in Mainz and taught at various high schools, served as chairman of the BDK in Rhineland-Palatinate, had a teaching assignment at the University of Koblenz-Landau, and worked, among others, at the media center in Bad Kreuznach. He is a member of the German Werkbund, various art associations, and the second chairman of the Ingelheim Art Association. Wolfhard Tannhäuser is known for his drawings, classical portrait photographs, and socially critical photo collages.
With the summer special, we are trying out a new format: Instead of the usual summer break, the rooms at Bahnhofstraße 48 will be open “Sundays in July” (July 5, 12, 19, and 26) from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Special dates are available upon request. The artist will be personally present on all dates.
