Metropolis #2

Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" tells of a city where the privileged live above ground and workers keep the machines running below. The Rhineland Orchestra Academy Mainz (ROAM) accompanies the reconstructed film version live with the original music by Gottfried Huppertz. Late romantic sounds, jazz, and machine-like rhythms follow the plot. After the premiere in 1927, the film was heavily cut; a find in Buenos Aires in 2008 enabled its reconstruction by the Friedrich-Murnau-Stiftung. About 20 years after their first "Metropolis" performance, the ROAM returns to the work. Olivier Pols conducts. The film concert takes place in cooperation with FILMZ – Festival of German Cinema.
