Philipp Weber – Power to the Popel

Philipp Weber – Power to the Popel
Democracy for Career Changers

Admit it, you just read "Power to the People" and internally hummed the wonderful song by John Lennon. But this title is not a typo, because in Philipp Weber's cabaret piece everything revolves around the little "Popel," which the Duden defines as a "insignificant and miserable little person." It is actually the task of democracy to shape the individual tiny beings into a self-governing people, the sovereign sovereign. But how quickly does the Popel turn into the rabble? According to unofficial government surveys, 75 percent of Germans believe that three-quarters of Germans are total idiots. But who actually has the say here? The people, the rabble, or the Popel?

The answer is simple: Philipp Weber! In times where representatives and manipulators of the people endlessly invoke the crisis of bourgeois society, the cabaret artist engages his audience on an exciting expedition through the flora and fauna of the state apparatus, practicing the most valuable democratic virtue: humor. Laugh along and protect democracy!
