Nature History (n) - Protected by Walls and Gates

Stroll with us through Ober-Ingelheim and hear stories from the time of knights.

Regional nobility built their estates in this district. Defensive walls, as part of the fortifications, guaranteed the protection of their worldly possessions from unwanted intrusions. Moreover, sturdy gates denied access to some dubious characters in the neighborhood.

Everything was under the care of religion. The Gothic castle church, located at the highest point of Ober-Ingelheim, accompanied the Christian life of families.

During our tour, the everyday life and beliefs of people in the Middle Ages become vividly experienceable. We will report on which plants played an important role at that time, why they were found in home gardens and at the edges of fields. In the crevices of the masonry, we recognize the secret of the wallflower, we look at old buildings and behind fences, and admire the colorful autumn hues of the Virginia creeper and the maiden vine.
