For many centuries, the abundance of water has played an important role for Wackernheim. Numerous springs and productive wells shaped the village and everyday life.
A remarkable construction achievement from the 8th century, during the time of Charlemagne, was the Carolingian aqueduct. Originating in Heidesheim, the water was channeled through an underground canal that ran right through the village center of Wackernheim. Thus, the water reached the palace in Ingelheim.
From an early stage, there were many mills along the waterways, which served as important meeting points for the villagers.
On a hike, we follow the path of the water; let yourself be surprised by stories about wells, springs, and mills.
