Not a swear word, but full-bodied praise

The single vineyard is located at the southern end of "Roter Hang" in a side valley towards Schwabsburg. The name Orbel was mentioned in the community chronicles as early as 1386. "Ölbel" is a dialect word borrowed from the dialect of the locals. An "Ölbel" is a broad, strong, four-bearded man who appears uncouth. A swear word! In relation to the wine, however, it is not a negative association: the wines here are full-bodied, juicy and rich. Riesling or Silvaner grow on loess and red-lying soil that is fissured like slate gravel. Not far from the site: the Schwabsburg castle tower.

The name Guntrum has stood for exceptional wines since 1648. Today Konstantin Guntrum and his wife Stephanie continue the tradition in the 11th generation and set new trends. In 1923 Louis Jean George Guntrum built the manor house in Nierstein. Located directly on the proud Rhine, it has since created a home and identity for family and wines. In the middle of Rheinhessen, Louis Guntrum produces authentic wines typical of the variety.

Since 2003, we have been working in a controlled ecological manner to preserve the excellent quality of our wines for future generations. Reducing yields, long maceration times, and partial spontaneous fermentation make our wines authentic and complex. This is especially true for our Rieslings from the renowned sites Schloss Schwabsburg, Heiligenbaum, Pettenthal, and Orbel from the Red Slope.
Since 2009, the winery has been located in the middle of the Paterberg site. From here, we look out over the Rhine, the Red Slope, and Nierstein. Throughout the year, wine lovers from near and far come to us to enjoy this unique ambiance.
