The aim is an environmentally friendly folk festival

Less waste thanks to reusable tableware at Ingelheim Harbour Festival

A deposit system instead of disposable tableware – that was the motto at the Ingelheim Harbour Festival 2025. For the first time, reusable tableware was used at the food stands on the festival grounds. The introduction of the deposit system meant that bags full of plastic waste were avoided at the three-day folk festival on the Rhine.

At the same time, valuable resources were conserved by dispensing with disposable tableware. All in all, everyone involved in the harbour festival made an important contribution to environmental protection. Visitors enjoyed their food from high-quality, reusable containers, which were simply returned after use. The new deposit system was very well received by guests who attended the 2025 harbour festival.

By dispensing with disposable tableware, Ingelheimer Kultur und Marketing GmbH (IkUM) is breaking new ground towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly folk festival. IkUM's goal is to further develop the deposit system and thus also strengthen the sustainability of its festivals. The reusable concept is part of IkUM's sustainability strategy and another important step on the way to becoming a sustainable company.
