Red Wine Festival – where tradition meets passion

The nine-day event is one of the most popular wine festivals in Rheinhessen and, since 2014, has even been able to call itself an ‘EXCELLENT Wine Festival’ after being awarded the seal of approval by Rheinhessenwein e. V.

Ingelheimer Kultur und Marketing GmbH (IkUM) has come up with some exciting new features for this year's red wine festival. For the first time, there will be a Ferris wheel wine tasting, a wine quiz, a GPS wine walk and a strolling wine tasting. Another new addition to the programme is ‘Silent Monday’. In addition, for the first time, all food stands at the Red Wine Festival will use standardised returnable tableware. Musical highlights include the Queen cover band ‘Rockfonie’, which will play in the festival tent on Red Wine Festival Tuesday.

The festival kicks off with a real highlight – the coronation of the new Red Wine Queen Laura Schlösser on Saturday, 27 September 2025, at 4 p.m. on Ober-Ingelheim's market square. With a coronation glass (0.1 litres), you can toast the newly crowned queen and her two princesses during the ceremony.

You can also meet up with your loved ones at the red wine fountain and taste wines from 25 wine shops and vineyards. Good to know: don't be misled by the name of the festival – you can also enjoy numerous excellent white and rosé wines, seccos and sparkling wines from Ingelheim here.

This year, for the first time, you can take part in a wine quiz at the wine fountain of the wine shop. A blind tasting will be offered on both Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. You can prove your wine expertise in the tricky quiz.

As an additional offer from the Tourist Information Office and the Ingelheim wine shop, the popular ‘GPS Wine Walk’ is being offered in a special Red Wine Festival edition. The tour leads from the wine cellar in Nieder-Ingelheim to the Red Wine Festival grounds in Ober-Ingelheim – concluding with a glass of wine at the red wine fountain of the Ingelheim wine shop.

The ‘Piffche Pass’ offers excellent wine experiences and can be redeemed at the stands of participating wineries: who knows, maybe you'll even find your new favourite wine this way? With the ‘Schoppe-Kärtsche’ card, you can enjoy a total of ten glasses of wine for 40 euros at the red wine fountain during the nine days of the festival. Pure wine enjoyment! Another highlight is the mayor's traditional Burgundy wine tasting.

This year, wine connoisseurs can also look forward to other new wine tasting formats: on Wednesday, 1 October 2025, at 6 p.m., there will be the first Ferris wheel wine tasting. At lofty heights, the Ingelheim red wine majesties will commentate on the wine tasting via microphone from the ground.

Locals and tourists alike appreciate the cosy, warm atmosphere that prevails at the Red Wine Festival. It is therefore the perfect place to meet nice people, raise a glass with them and strike up a conversation. Celebrating life with (new) friends over a glass of good wine in an idyllic rose garden – what could be better?

Enjoy excellent wines and treat yourself to culinary delicacies. The Ingelheim Red Wine Festival also impresses with its unique location: let your gaze wander over the impressive defensive wall, the defiant Malakoff Tower and the imposing castle church. The evening illumination and the historic ambience also add a touch of romance.

Everyone is welcome at the Red Wine Festival: the Sunday shopping, the Ü60-Treff (formerly Senior Citizens' Afternoon) and the Ingelheim Evening of the Vintages are events that many people would not want to miss. A colourful children's programme delights visitors on Family Afternoon with entertainment such as a participatory concert and a balloon show. Young people between the ages of 12 and 23 feel right at home in the Green Room with table football, an iced tea bar and karaoke.

Funfair fans will also get their money's worth: cheerful children's laughter wafts over from the carousels; the tempting smell of bratwurst, popcorn and roasted almonds fills the air. You can enjoy a magnificent view from the Ferris wheel, dangle your legs on the chain carousel or look forward to a fast-paced ride on the bumper cars.

Stroll through the picturesque village, enjoy the convivial atmosphere and let yourself be infected by the joie de vivre of the people who live here. This charming folk festival makes it easy for you to leave the stresses of everyday life behind for a short while.

Why not do so as part of a strolling wine tasting, which is also celebrating its premiere this year? Let the Ingelheim red wine majesties guide you through the festival grounds on Sunday, 28 September, Monday, 29 September and Tuesday, 30 September, each day from 6 p.m., and taste high-quality wines at four different stands.

The perfect finale to the red wine festival is marked by magnificent fireworks in the picturesque vineyards. Be our guest again in 2025 and let yourself be enchanted by the incomparable atmosphere. A very special festival awaits you on the castle grounds, offering the finest Ingelheim wines and culinary delights, as well as an extraordinary supporting programme.

The Ingelheim Red Wine Festival is supported by: Molitor select GmbH, Rheinhessische Energie- und Wasserversorgungs-GmbH, Sparkasse Rhein-Nahe, REWE Ingelheim – Neue Mitte (REWE Markus Brzezina OHG) and Volksbank Darmstadt Mainz.
