During a walk through Gau-Algesheim, you will encounter Schloss Ardeck. In 1122, a castle complex was first mentioned for Gau-Algesheim, which was located at the site of today's Schloss Ardeck. The castle complex is said to have originally been fortified: A defensive wall, a moat, and a drawbridge protected the site from outside and inward toward the town of Gau-Algesheim. However, the castle complex can be reliably documented only in the 15th century; in the following time, it was converted into a palace. At the beginning of the 19th century, the defensive parts of the palace were removed. Today, Schloss Ardeck is owned by the town of Gau-Algesheim and houses, among other things, the Rheinhessian Bicycle Museum.
