In 1122, a castle complex was first mentioned for Gau-Algesheim, which was located at the site of today's Ardeck Castle. The castle complex was originally fortified: A defensive wall, a moat, and a drawbridge protected the complex from the outside and towards the town of Gau-Algesheim. However, the castle complex is only verifiable from the 15th century; in subsequent years, it was converted into a palace. In the early 19th century, the defensive parts of the palace were removed. Today, Ardeck Castle is owned by the city of Gau-Algesheim and houses, among other things, the Rheinhessen Bicycle Museum.
