The Ingelheim Red Wine Festival is celebrating a milestone birthday this year: the long-standing folk festival in the Ober-Ingelheim district is turning 80. The nine-day anniversary celebrations kick off on the last weekend in September. From 26 September to 4 October, the area around the historic Burgkirche will once again be transformed into a lively meeting place for everyone who wants to celebrate and enjoy themselves together. One of the highlights of the anniversary year is the ‘Ball en rouge’, for which the marquee will be transformed into a grand ballroom on Saturday 3 October. The name says it all: guests are invited to contribute to the evening’s atmospheric ambience by wearing a red item of clothing or accessory.
From Tuesday 25 August to Saturday 29 August, families will have the opportunity to take part in the grape harvest together during the Ingelheim Vinothek’s opening hours (Tuesdays to Fridays 1 pm to 6 pm, Saturdays 11 am to 4 pm). In the vineyard on the premises, below the north terrace of the Winzerkeller, delicious table grapes can be harvested, nibbled on and taken home. Under the slogan ‘Bring your secateurs – and let’s get started’, families are invited to stock up on vitamins from local produce. Of course, individuals are also welcome to join in the grape harvest.
As part of the open-air series ‘Thursdays in the City’ (DidC), Ingelheim’s high street retailers are offering a range of attractive promotions on Thursday 13 August. Alongside the children’s programme with Alex Schmeisser (starting at 3 pm) and a performance by the cover band ‘Bruise Brassers’ (starting at 7 pm), there will be special events taking place in the city centre.
If you’ve noticed some minor work being carried out on the pavements along Mainzer Straße and Binger Straße of late, this is a sign of a new tourist initiative being launched by the town: by mid-August, the ‘Historical Culture Mile’ will provide an innovative route guiding visitors to Ingelheim’s most important sights.
