THE HOOTERS

When THE HOOTERS first appeared on the Philadelphia music scene in 1980, they conquered the East Coast at breakneck speed. Led by keyboardist Rob Hyman and guitar-playing vocalist Eric Bazilian, they released their first indie album in 1983, which sold 100,000 records from a standing start and was also the carrier of the original versions of future worldwide hits such as "All You Zombies" and "Fightin On The Same Side".

Just 1 year later, THE HOOTERS signed their first major record deal with Columbia Records and shortly afterwards, in 1985, released their official debut "Nervous Night" with such classics as "Day by Day", "And We Danced", "Where Do The Children Go" and of course "All You Zombies".

Luck or Destiny was the choice for THE HOOTERS' participation in the LIVE AID concert in Philadelphia in July 1985 and quickly brought the band worldwide gold and platinum status for "Nervous Night". This was immediately followed by their canonization by the most important music magazine at the time, "Rolling Stone", as "Best New Band Of The Year" in 1985.

Spurred on by their great success, THE HOOTERS followed up with even more hits for both fans and their record company. "Johnny B", "Karla With A K" and "Satellite" were all on the long player "One Way Home" (Columbia 1987), followed by the gold and platinum album "Zig Zag" (Columbia 1989), which attracted the attention of none other than Pink Floyd's Roger Waters with the song "500 Miles". It was Roger Waters who invited THE HOOTERS to take part in the legendary event of the 20th century and the end of the millennium. We are talking about the multimedia event extravaganza "The Wall" (Live from Berlin), which took place in 1990 together with stars and greats such as Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, The Band, Bryan Adams and many others.

Not content with celebrating success after success with their band, bandleaders Eric Bazilian and Rob Hyman were also driven to write hits for other artists. And how could it be otherwise, they were successful and created an all-time classic with producer Rick Cherloff. We're talking about Rob and Cyndi Lauper's song "Time After Time", which was on Cyndi Lauper's debut album alongside "She's So Unusual" and was nominated for several Grammys, including in the "Song Of The Year" category, and has always been one of the biggest 80s hits ever.

The debut "Relish" by Joan Osborne was also co-written and recorded in large parts by Eric and Rob, and the hit "One of Us", masterfully written by Eric, shot into the Top 10 in the USA for more than 8 weeks. "Relish" and partly the song "One of Us" were nominated for various Grammys in 1996 in the categories "Song Of The Year, Record Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance".

Not surprisingly, the list of artists who have worked with Rob and Eric reads like a "Who's Who" of the music world. Here is an incomplete list: Taj Mahal, Mick Jagger, Sophie B. Hawkins, Jon Bon Jovi, Willie Nelson, The Band, LeAnn Rimes, Amanda Marshall, Billie Myers, Carole King, Robbie Williams, Dar Williams, Jonathan Brooke, JC Chasez, Meatloaf and The Scorpions.

In 2000, none other than Ricky Martin covered "Private Emotion", which became a huge hit.

In 2001, THE HOOTERS announced their reunion and have been touring intensively and continuously ever since. 2023 saw the release of their new album "Rocking & Swing", an album with 8 new tracks plus a bonus live track that takes us back to the band's roots in the early 80s. With their unique blend of ska, reggae and rock, recorded at the Keswick Theatre in November 2022, they give their fans a real treat, especially with the first ever recording of some of the early songs they performed live back in the early days.
